Early Literacy

I found this great article on what a mom can do to promote early literacy: What to Expect at Preschool: Literacy
Also, check out some of the books I recommend that are fun to read with your kids.

Generally, if you read books every night to your child and take him to a library or bookstore to pick out books, your child will develop a love for reading. Further, if your child talks to you about something he is interested in, mine currently wants to know about ladybugs, get some books on the subject. I remember when I had a hard time describing the difference between a squid and an octopus. I went to the library and picked out 3 or 4 books and we talked about it. Same thing again when my son wanted to know what insects made (e.g. bees make honey, wasps make ink, etc.). All it takes is 15-30 minutes every night to give him a life-long love for books.
